Construction continues at Santiago Calatrava‘s bold Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas after it’s signature arch was topped off in June.  The cable-stayed bridge is one of three planned as part of the Trinity River Corridor Project, which aims to redevelop the Trinity River and its floodplains, improving traffic flow, increasing parkland, and providing flood protection for the region.

Standing 400 feet tall, the Italian-made, steel catenary arch will support six lanes of traffic connecting Singleton Boulevard with with downtown Dallas.  When complete in 2011, the 1,200-foot span’s cables will create a fluid, sculptural pattern as they descend to the center of the roadway.

A time-lapse camera has been set up offering up-to-date construction photos of the bridge.

From our CONSTRUCTION Desk:

Leaders and other supporters of Brother Bill’s Helping Hand will gather at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 to break ground for the support group’s new community center in West Dallas.

The faith-based nonprofit is building larger, more accessible quarters at 3906 N. Westmoreland, where it will continue to provide food, clothing, job-training, health services and more.

In north Oak Cliff, workers and machines are tearing into the dirt near Zang and Colorado, preparing for construction of the Zang Triangle apartment project.

When completed in late 2011 or early 2012, the complex will provide 260 homes across from the Lake Cliff Tower condos. Twenty percent of the units will be reserved for tenants who annually earn no more than 80 percent of the area’s median income, currently $38,300 for one person or $54,640 for a family of four.

Standing four- and five stories tall, the complex will reshape the landscape along a major Oak Cliff entry and exitway. See below.

It will include potential retail space and sculptures commissioned through DeCorazon Gallery, said Dirik Oudt, a principle in Lang Partners, along with Kyle Oudt, Matt Johnson and John Ausburn.
